Exhibitions
In 2023, Dee Washer exhibited her first solo art show, Colors of San Miguel, at Salon Semilla, a community venue in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Also in 2023, her figural abstract paintings of women were reviewed in The Orphan Age magazine published by Spartan Press in Kansas City, Missouri. Her painting ,Venus, appeared on the magazine’s cover. In 2024, Ms. Washer exhibited in a highly anticipated and attended show: Crossing Borders. This was a collaboration with artist Michelle Ferrier of Tallassee, Florida. In this show, Ms. Washer’s work focused on the colors and architecture of San Miguel de Allende as one vision of Mexico’s side of the international border.
Education
Dee Washer has a Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts (MLA) from Baldwin University in Baldwin, Kansas. She has taught traditional classes, and, developed and taught, online classes in Literature and Art History. While doing this work and traveling to many world class museums, Dee discovered a passion for art-making. She is mostly self-taught, but has taken classes from The Creative Visionary Program (CVP) and is a member of Art2Life Academy, founded by artist Nicholas Wilton.
Artist Statement
"My work is largely about how color can affect human emotions, and shapes, as symbols, can convey historical ideas. I want the viewer to be drawn in to the work through the impact of color, and reflect on the interplay of symbols within cultures".
